The Celebration

A Legacy That Inspires Generations.

For eight decades, Chief Dame Hon. Justice Sotonye Denton West, PJ · JCA (Emeritus) has walked a path defined by an unwavering commitment to justice, an abiding integrity on and off the Bench, and a quiet, persistent devotion to the service of others. Her life's work spans the courtroom, the classroom of mentorship, and the wider cause of a stronger constitutional democracy.

"Justice is not merely a profession — it is a life sentence to service."

This September, family, the Bench and Bar, government, faith community and friends gather in Port Harcourt across two principal celebration days — 17 and 19 September — to honour that journey, not simply as a birthday, but as a testament to eighty years of purpose.

A Living Symbol

The Baobab — Tree of Life

Revered across Africa as the Tree of Life, the Baobab (Adansonia) can live for thousands of years — its broad trunk storing life through drought, its branches reaching skyward like roots in prayer. It stands here as she does: rooted, unshaken, and a source of shade and wisdom for generations to gather beneath.
